Rent a canoe, paddle board, kayak or boat. What most people don’t realize is that there’s a ton of wildlife at Boulder Reservoir. In addition to the geese, coots, loons, and grebes, you can paddle with ospreys, blue and black herons, egrets, and pelicans. There are also owls, bald eagles, falcons, and hawks too.

Many people swim in the supervised swimming area. It is big enough if you want to swim long distance (if you don’t mind swimming in large circles) and the three floating docks are sunny places to rest.

what is ncar?NCAR stands for National Center for Atmospheric Research. It is a research organization, established in 1960, that seeks to better understand our atmosphere and how weather and climate affect the Earth.

The Visitor Center at the Mesa Laboratory is open to the public daily at no charge. Guided tours and self-guided tablet tours include video and audio on one of the first supercomputers built by Seymour Cray as well as NCAR’s modern supercomputer fleet, many hands-on educational exhibits demonstrating weather phenomena and Earth’s changing climate, and a scenic outdoor weather trail. Public guided hour-long tours are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon, excluding holidays.
